TedWomen conference

Just when I thought women were progressing in society… and now this:

Some label it as progressive and are celebrating it. I think they want to celebrate women. Their “ideas on women have changed.” Oh friends, I’m not sure if they really have.

What if they hosted a TEDBlacks conference? Or a TEDHispanic conference? Would we think it was so progressive and wonderful? Probably not.

Thank you, TED conference, for making a whole women’s conference. Should you make a TEDMen conference too? Oh wait, I guess that’s what the normal conference is for? I guess they don’t think these awesome women that are going to be highlighted deserve a spot in the main TED conference? I thought better of this organization.

July 17th, 2010 at 8:04 pm and we wonder why Aly is so feisty? I also thought it was strange, since women are speakers in the regular conferences. Maybe it is about women’s issues or something. You do have to wonder if they are trying to make a separate but equal plea.

July 18th, 2010 at 3:22 pm I thought the same thing. On the one hand, it seems to give them a platform for women’s voices, but it ultimately says that they aren’t a part of the regular space! Good thoughts.

July 19th, 2010 at 5:40 am I don’t know. I’m not convinced this is a bad thing. I think this is better than them having a whole conference and squeezing in one woman speaker to please the masses and still have everyone pissed off.

On their website they say, “TEDWomen will reveal: Who are the women leading change? What ideas are they championing? And how are they shaping the future? Over the past several years, our ideas on women have changed. A new lens reveals women and girls as powerful change agents in the area of economic growth, public health, political stability and beyond. The first-ever TEDWomen will bring them into focus.”

I think they are wanting to highlight and promote women.
